The Study of Indian History and Culture - Vol - 11 of 18 General Editor - Shripad Kulkarni The proposed 18 volume history of India and her culture to be published under the auspices of Sri Bhagvan Vedavyasa Itihasa Samshodhana Mandira (BHISHMA for short) has been unequivocally hailed as a project of national importance and inter national significance by many eminent personalities from different walks of life Over hundred scholars from all over India are associated with the work of writing of these volumes. Although the present volume on the life of Adi Sankara is XI in the series, it is published first as the research involved in its preparation proved to be the inspiration behind the conception of this project The history of Bharata, written so far, is mainly based on the conclusions and interpretations of Western scholars who have knowingly or unknowingly distorted facts and events in Bharata's history In a free democracy like India, an authentic history of the country is the need of the time The works on history of Bharata published so far also emphasise political and economic rather than the social and cultural aspects These latter aspects have assumed greater significance especially when the whole world is looking to us today for succour in its present malaise and for guidance in matters of religion and culture The uniqueness of the volumes would be : () A new chronology in the history of Bharata based on historical evidence and (it) a fuller discussion of the social and cultural aspects with their manifold implications It is hoped that the project, when completed, would provide an authentic history of India and her Culture. Published on 1997 Available in ENGLISH and MARATHI Hardcover, Pages: 362 Publisher: Shri Bhagwan Vedvyasa Itihasa Samshodhana Mandir (BHISHMA)
